Generator Bracket Replacement 2.2L

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  3. Remove the engine cooling fan clutch. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  4. Remove the engine drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 2.2L.

  5. Object Number: 382571  Size: SH
  6. Remove the fan pulley.
  7. Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement .
  8. Remove the A/C compressor, if equipped. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  9. Remove the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement in Power Steering System.
  10. Remove the thermostat assembly. Refer to Engine Coolant Thermostat Replacement in Engine Cooling.

  12. Remove the bolts holding the generator mounting bracket to the engine.
  13. Remove the generator mounting bracket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 175516  Size: SH
  1. Install the accessory mounting bracket.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the generator mounting bracket bolts to the engine.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the generator mounting bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  5. Install the thermostat assembly. Refer to Engine Coolant Thermostat Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  6. Install the A/C compressor, if equipped. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Replacement in Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning.
  7. Install the power steering pump. Refer to Power Steering Pump Replacement in Power Steering System.
  8. Install the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement .

  10. Install the fan pulley.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the fan pulley bolts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  12. Install the engine drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 2.2L.
  13. Install the engine cooling fan clutch. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  14. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling in Engine Cooling.
  15. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

Generator Bracket Replacement 4.3L

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 340790  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Remove the engine cooling fan. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  3. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 4.3L.
  4. Remove the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement .
  5. Remove the engine wiring harness bracket from the generator mounting bracket.
  6. Remove the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 4.3L.
  7. Remove the drive belt idler pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement - Right Side in Engine Mechanical - 4.3L.

  8. Object Number: 196643  Size: SH
  9. Remove the 3 bolts and nut holding the generator mounting bracket to the engine.
  10. Remove the generator mounting bracket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 196643  Size: SH
  1. Install the generator mounting bracket to the cylinder head.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the 2 generator mounting bracket bolts and the nut.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the generator mounting bracket bolts and nut to 41 N·m (30 lb ft).

  5. Install the drive belt idler pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Idler Pulley Replacement - Right Side in Engine Mechanical - 4.3L.
  6. Install the drive belt tensioner. Refer to Drive Belt Tensioner Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 4.3L.

  7. Object Number: 340790  Size: SH
  8. Install the engine wiring harness bracket to the generator mounting bracket.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the engine wiring harness bracket bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  10. Install the generator. Refer to Generator Replacement .
  11. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical - 4.3 L.
  12. Install the engine cooling fan. Refer to Fan Clutch Replacement in Engine Cooling.
  13. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
