Tools Required
J 39400-A Halogen
Leak Detector
Removal Procedure
- Recover the refrigerant from the A/C system. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
.
- Remove the radiator. Refer to
Radiator Replacement
in Engine Cooling.
- Remove the nut retaining the compressor hose to the condenser.
- Remove the compressor hose assembly from the condenser.
- Remove the evaporator tube from the condenser. Refer to
Evaporator Tube Replacement
.
- Remove the insulator retainer bolts and the upper insulator retainers.
- Remove the condenser from
the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
Important: If replacing the condenser, add the refrigerant oil to the condenser.
Refer to
Refrigerant System Capacities
for system capacity information.
- Install the condenser
to the vehicle.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the upper insulator retainers and the insulator retainer bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 1.9 N·m (17 lb in).
- Install the evaporator tube to the condenser. Refer to
Evaporator Tube Replacement
.
- Install the compressor hose assembly to the condenser.
- Tighten the compressor hose nut.
Tighten
Tighten the nut to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).
- Install the radiator. Refer to
Radiator Replacement
in Engine Cooling.
- Evacuate and recharge the A/C system. Refer to
Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging
.
- Leak test the fittings of the components using the J 39400-A
.
