Removal Procedure
Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.

- Disable the SIR System. Refer to
SIR Disabling and Enabling
.
- Remove the radio. Refer to
Radio Replacement
in Entertainment.
- Remove the I/P storage compartment door. Refer to
Instrument Panel Compartment Door Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Remove the fasteners (4,5) that retain inflatable restraint module to the instrument panel.
- Remove the inflatable restraint module (2) from the instrument panel (3).
- Fully deploy the module before disposal. If the module was replaced under warranty, fully deploy and dispose of the module after the required retention period. Refer to
Inflator Module Handling and Scrapping
.
Installation Procedure
- Install the inflatable restraint module to the instrument panel.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the fasteners (1) that retain the inflatable restraint module (2) to the instrument panel (3).
Tighten
Tighten the retaining nuts (5) and bolts (4) to 8.0 N·m (70 lb in).
- Install the radio. Refer to
Radio Replacement
in Entertainment.
- Install the I/P storage compartment door. Refer to
Instrument Panel Compartment Door Replacement
in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
- Enable the SIR System. Refer to
SIR Disabling and Enabling
.
