Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 159798  Size: SH
  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Important: If the brake drum is going to be reused, mark the relationship of the brake drum to one of the wheel studs. This will ensure the proper that the brake drum will be replaced to it's original position.

  4. Remove the rear brake drum.
  5. Using denatured alcohol, clean the rear brake shoes and hardware.
  6. Using non-lubricated, filtered compressed air, dry the rear brake shoes and hardware.

  8. Remove the rear brake shoes and hardware.
  9. Remove the park brake hardware.

Installation Procedure

Important: Apply a high temperature silicone lubricant to all of the brake component metal contact points where the brake shoe metal contacts the backing plate, the wheel cylinder and the adjustment strut, etc. prior to installation.

  1. Replace the park brake hardware components as necessary.
  2. Install the drum brake shoes and hardware. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 159798  Size: SH
  4. Install the rear brake drum.
  5. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  6. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
