Diagnostic Aids

The driver information center (DIC) displays dashes (- -) when there is a fault in the class 2 serial data circuit. This occurs only during the following modes:

    • Average Fuel Economy
    • Average Speed
    • Fuel Used
    • Instant Fuel Economy
    • Trip Range

The compass display and the temperature display still operate normally when there is a fault in the class 2 serial data circuit. In this case refer to Scan Tool Does Not Communicate with Class 2 Device in Computer/Integrating Systems for diagnosis.

Test the instrument panel (I/P) lamp supply voltage circuit of the driver information center (DIC) for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the battery positive voltage circuit of the DIC for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the retained accessory power (RAP) fuse supply voltage circuit of the DIC for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test the ground circuit of the DIC for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the DIC. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the DIC. Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.
