Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 395770  Size: SH
  1. Place a drain pan under the vehicle.
  2. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls 4.3L.
  3. Remove the power steering pump pulley. Refer to Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement .
  4. Disconnect the power steering pressure hose from the power steering gear.

  6. Disconnect the power steering cooler hose from the power steering pump.

  7. Object Number: 740899  Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the air reacter tube from the lower reacter tube.
  9. Remove the air reacter pipe lower retaining nut.
  10. Disconnect the air reactor pipe from the check valve and remove reacter pipe.

  11. Object Number: 288836  Size: SH
  12. Remove the power steering pump filler neck tube mounting bolt.
  13. Remove the power steering pump filler neck tube.

  14. Object Number: 288833  Size: SH
  15. Remove the power steering rear mounting bracket nut from the engine stud.

  16. Object Number: 288829  Size: SH
  17. Remove the power steering pump front mounting bolts.

  18. Object Number: 340090  Size: SH
  19. Loosen the accessory mounting bracket bolts and nuts and pull accessory mounting bracket forward.
  20. Remove the power steering pump and power steering pressure hose from the vehicle.
  21. Important: Note the position of the power steering pressure hose to the power steering pump to ensure proper installation to the vehicle.

  22. Remove the power steering pressure hose from the power steering pump.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 340090  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the power steering pressure hose to the power steering pump.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the hose to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  3. Install the power steering pump and power steering pressure hose to the vehicle.
  4. Reposition the power steering pump bracket and tighten the power steering pump bracket mounting bolts and nut.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the power accessory mounting bracket mounting bolts and nut to 41 N·m (30 lb ft).

  6. Install the power steering pump front mounting bolts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  8. Install the power steering pump rear mounting bracket nut to the engine stud.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 41 N·m (31 lb ft).

  10. Install the filler neck tube.
  11. Install the filler neck tube mounting bolt.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  13. Connect the lower secondary air injection reactor pipe to the check valve.
  14. Install the lower secondary air injection reactor pipe bracket to the power steering pump bracket stud.
  15. Install the power steering pump mounting bracket retaining nut.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 41 N·m (31 lb ft).

  17. Connect the lower secondary air injection reactor pipe lower connection.

  18. Object Number: 395852  Size: SH
  19. Connect the power steering cooler hose to the power steering pump.

  20. Object Number: 395770  Size: SH
  21. Connect the power steering pressure hose to the power steering gear.
  22. Install the power steering pump pulley. Refer to Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement .
  23. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement in Engine Controls 4.3L.
  24. Remove the drain pan from under the vehicle.
  25. Fill the power steering system.
  26. Bleed the system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  27. Inspect the hoses for clearance away from the frame and other components.
