SUBJECT: SERVICE MANUAL UPDATE - SECTION 7A14D - PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH REPLACEMENT/ADJUSTMENT

MODELS: 1995 CHEVROLET AND GMC TRUCK S/T MODELS

THIS BULLETIN UPDATES THE SERVICE MANUAL PROCEDURE FOR THE PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE ON PAGE 7A14D-5 IN THE 1995 S/T SERVICE MANUAL (GMT195-ST-1P).

PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH REPLACEMENT FIGURE 1

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT OR LOOSEN * APPLY PARKING BRAKE. * SHIFT TRANSMISSION TO NEUTRAL POSITION. 1. NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE. REFER TO SECTION 0A. 2. NUT SECURING TRANSMISSION CONTROL LEVER TO MANUAL SHAFT. 3. TRANSMISSION CONTROL LEVER FROM MANUAL SHAFT. * LET THE SHIFT CABLE AND CONTROL LEVER DROP OUT OF THE WAY. 4. WIRING HARNESS CONNECTORS FROM SWITCH. 5. TWO BOLTS SECURING THE SWITCH TO THE TRANSMISSION. 6. SWITCH FROM THE MANUAL SHAFT. * IF THE SWITCH DOES NOT SLIDE OFF OF THE MANUAL SHAFT, LIGHTLY FILE THE OUTER EDGE OF THE MANUAL SHAFT TO REMOVE ANY BURRS FROM THE SHAFT.

INSTALL OR CONNECT

1. INSTALL TOOL J-41364 TO PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH. BE SURE THAT THE TWO DETENTS ON THE SWITCH (WHERE MANUAL SHAFT IS INSERTED) ARE LINED UP WITH THE LOWER TWO TABS ON TOOL. ROTATE TOOL UNTIL UPPER LOCATOR PIN ON TOOL IS LINED UP WITH LOCATOR ON SWITCH (FIGURE 1). 2. SWITCH TO TRANSMISSION MANUAL SHAFT. * BEFORE SLIDING THE SWITCH ONTO THE SHAFT, IT MAY BE NECESSARY TO LIGHTLY FILE THE OUTER EDGE OF THE MANUAL SHAFT TO REMOVE ANY BURRS FROM THE SHAFT. * ALIGN SWITCH HUB FLATS WITH MANUAL SHAFT FLATS. * SLIDE SWITCH ONTO TRANSMISSION MANUAL SHAFT UNTIL THE SWITCH MOUNTING BRACKET CONTACTS THE MOUNTING BOSSES ON THE TRANSMISSION. 3. SWITCH TO TRANSMISSION WITH TWO BOLTS. TIGHTEN: * BOLTS SECURING SWITCH TO TRANSMISSION TO 27 N.M (20 LB FT). 4. REMOVE TOOL J-41364 FROM SWITCH. 5. WIRING HARNESS CONNECTORS TO SWITCH. 6. TRANSMISSION CONTROL LEVER TO MANUAL SHAFT. 7. TRANSMISSION CONTROL LEVER TO MANUAL SHAFT WITH NUT. TIGHTEN: * NUT SECURING CONTROL LEVER TO MANUAL SHAFT TO 27 N.M (20 LB FT). 8. LOWER VEHICLE. 9. NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE. 10. CHECK SWITCH FOR PROPER OPERATION. * THE ENGINE MUST START IN THE "P" (PARK) OR "N" (NEUTRAL) POSITIONS ONLY. ADJUST IF NEEDED. REFER TO "PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH ADJUSTMENT."
