TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAK (REPLACE TRANSMISSION)

SUBJECT: TRANSMISSION FLUID LEAK (REPLACE TRANSMISSION)

MODELS: 1996 C/K, M/L, S/T AND G MODELS WITH HYDRA-MATIC 4L60-E TRANSMISSION (RPO M30) AND 4.3L ENGINE (VINS W, X - RPOS L35 AND LF6)

CONDITION: (FIGURE 1)

SOME OWNERS WITH VEHICLES BUILT BEFORE AUGUST 26, 1995 (JULIAN DATE 238) AND A HYDRA-MATIC 4L60E TRANSMISSION WITH A TWO-PIECE CASE, MAY EXPERIENCE A FLUID LEAK IN THE REAR OF THE TRANSMISSION.

CAUSE: (FIGURE 2)

POROSITY IN THE REAR CASE AREA.

CORRECTION:

THE TRANSMISSION FLUID MUST BE AT OPERATING TEMPERATURE. VERIFY THE LEAK BY USING TRANSMISSION FLUID DIE (J28431-22) AND BLACK LIGHT (J28428-E). IF THE LEAK IS IN THE AREA SHOWN IN FIGURE 2, REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION WITH A GM GOODWRENCH TRANSMISSION.
