DEFINITION: A loud bang or thump that can usually be felt and/or heard when the vehicle is driven over bumps. This condition is commonly noticed when the vehicle trim height is too low.

Road test the vehicle in order to verify the customer complaint. Ensure that the customer complaint is the suspension bottoming and not only a noise.

  1. Check for vehicle overloading. Refer to Tire Placard in General Information.
  2. If necessary, remove the excess weight from the vehicle.
  3. Road test the vehicle in order to verify the customer complaint.

  1. Inspect the vehicle trim height. Refer to Trim Height Inspection .
  2. Repair as necessary.

  1. Inspect the shock absorbers. Refer to Suspension Strut and Shock Absorber Testing - On Vehicle .
  2. Replace the components as necessary.
