J 29162 Rear Output Shaft Seal Installer

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the transfer case shield. Refer to Shield Replacement .
  3. Remove the front propeller shaft. Refer to Front Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.

  4. Object Number: 175414  Size: SH
  5. Remove the propeller shaft yoke.
  6. Remove the seal.
  7. • Use a screwdriver in order to remove the seal.
    • Do not damage the sealing bore.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 163920  Size: SH
  1. Install the seal using the J 29162 .
  2. Install the propeller shaft yoke.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Tighten
    Tighten the propeller shaft yoke nuts to 149 N·m (110 lb ft).

  4. Install the propeller shaft.
  5. Refer to Front Propeller Shaft Replacement In Propeller Shaft.

  6. Check the transfer case oil level and add oil as necessary. Refer to Approximate Fluid Capacities .
  7. Install the transfer case shield. Refer to Shield Replacement .
  8. Lower the vehicle.
