Problem

Action

Air is in the system.

  1. Add oil to the pump reservoir.
  2. Bleed the pump reservoir. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  3. Inspect the hose connectors for the proper tightness. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .

The steering gear mounting is loose.

Tighten the attaching bolts to the specifications.

Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .

The steering linkage joints are worn.

Replace the loose components.

Refer to Steering Linkage Inspection in Steering Linkage.

The front wheel bearings are incorrectly adjusted or worn.

Adjust the bearings or replace the components as necessary.

Refer to Wheel Bearing Adjustment in Front Suspension.

The steering gear is improperly adjusted.

Adjust the steering gear to specifications. Refer to Steering Gear Adjustments .

The steering gear is damaged or worn.

Replace the steering gear. Refer to Steering Gear Replacement or Steering Gear Replacement .
