For 1990-2009 cars only

Perform the following procedure to help identify the exact location of the leak:

  1. Turn the engine off.
  2. Wipe dry all the power steering system components.
  3. Wipe dry all the power steering system connections.
  4. Check the fluid reservoir.
  5. Add fluid if required. Refer to Approximate Fluid Capacities and Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations in Maintenance and Lubrication.
  6. The bleed the power steering system if the reservoir is empty. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
  7. Start the engine.
  8. Have an assistant turn the steering wheel from stop to stop several times while you search for leaks. Do not hold it at a stop for any length of time or damage to the pump may occur.
  9. Find the exact location of the leak.
  10. Repair the leak.
