Use the Scan Tool Data Display Values and Definitions Information in order to assist in diagnosing the electronic climate control (ECC) module problems. Compare the vehicles actual scan tool data with the typical data display value table information. Use the data information in order to aid in understanding the nature of the problem when the vehicle does not match with the typical data display values.

The scan tool data values were taken from a known good vehicle under the following conditions:

    • The ignition switch is in the ON position.
    • The engine is running at idle.
    • The vehicle is in PARK.
    • The doors are closed.
    • The windows are closed.
    • The ambient air temperatures are at 22-27°C (70-80°F).
Outside Air Temperature (OAT) (Range: -40 to 102°C (-40 to 215°F)): This data indicates the outside air temperature value that is measured at the outside air temperature sensor. In order for the electronic climate control (ECC) module to adjust the vehicle's inside temperature, the ECC must receive vehicle speed input through the class 2 serial data line as well as the outside air temperature.

Inside Air Temperature (Range: -40 to 102°C (-40 to 215°F)): This data indicates the inside air temperature value that is measured at the inside air temperature sensor.

A/C (Upper) Outlet Temperature (Range: -40 to 102°C (-40 to 215°F)): This data indicates the upper outlet air temperature value.

Heater (Lower) Outlet Temperature (Range: -40 to 102°C (-40 to 215°F)): This data indicates the lower outlet air temperature value.

Solar Load Sensor (Range: 0-255 Counts): This data indicates a value that is provided to the ECC from the sun load sensor. The value is related to the intensity of the sunlight shining on the dashboard. As sunlight intensity increases, the sunload sensor value decreases. A value near 234 counts is displayed when minimal sunlight is present.

Mix Door Maximum Position (Range: 0-256 Counts): This data indicates the value of the maximum mix door position after a calibration procedure has been performed. The ECC uses this value and the mix door minimum position value when calculating the commanded air mix door position.

Air Mix Door Commanded (Range: 0-256 Counts): This data indicates the value of the commanded air mix door position.

Air Mix Actual (Range: 0-256 Counts): This data indicates the actual air mix door position.

Mix Door Minimum Position (Range: 0-256 Counts): This data indicates the value of the minimum mix door position after a calibration procedure has been performed. The ECC uses this value and the mix door maximum position value when calculating the commanded air mix door position.

Blower Motor PWM Speed (Range: 0-100%): This data indicates the blower motor speed value as a percentage. The percentage is related to the duty cycle of the blower motor control signal. As the duty cycle increases, the blower motor speed increases. When the blower motor is at its maximum speed, the value will be between 96-99%.

Mode Selection Position Upper (Display: Auto/Upper Outlet/Bi-Level/Floor/Defog/Defrost): This data indicates the mode selection knob position. The positions are displayed as follows:

    • AUTO -- The electronic climate control (ECC) module controls all HVAC air flow.
    • UPPER OUTLET -- The air flows from the 4 upper outlets.
    • BI-LEVEL -- The air flows from the 4 panel vents and the 2 floor vents.
    • FLOOR -- The air flows from the 2 floor vents.
    • DEFOG -- The air flows from the defrost vent at the top of the instrument panel and the 2 floor vents.
    • DEFROST -- The air flows from the defrost vent at the top of the instrument panel.
A/C Request (Display: Yes/No): This data indicates the status of the A/C request. The ECC sends a message to the VCM in order to turn the A/C compressor clutch on. This message is independent of the state of the A/C LED on the electronic climate control (ECC) module.

A/C LED On (Display: ON/OFF): This data indicates the state of the A/C LED. When the occupant desires to turn on the A/C system, the A/C request switch is pressed. Placing the LED in the ON state. Once the A/C request switch is in the ON state, the request for the activation of the A/C system is made. The request is cancelled once the A/C request is pressed a second time. Placing the LED in the OFF state.

Rear Defogger Switch (Display: ON/OFF): This data indicates the state of the rear defogger switch LED. When the occupant desires to turn on the rear defogger, the switch is pressed. Placing the LED in the ON state. Once the rear defogger switch is on the ON state, the rear defogger is operational. The rear defogger is no longer operational when the switch is pressed a second time. Placing the LED in the OFF state.

Select Solenoid 1 (Display: ON/OFF): This data indicates the heater/defrost vacuum select solenoid state in the HVAC solenoid assembly.

Select Solenoid 2 (Display: ON/OFF): This data indicates the A/C vacuum select solenoid state in the HVAC solenoid assembly.

Select Solenoid 3 (Display: ON/OFF): This data indicates the heater vacuum select solenoid state in the HVAC solenoid assembly.

Select Solenoid 4 (Display: ON/OFF): This data indicates the defrost vacuum select solenoid state in the HVAC solenoid assembly.

Select Solenoid 5 (Display: ON/OFF): This data indicates the air inlet select solenoid state in the HVAC solenoid assembly.
