The automatic day/night inside rear view mirror uses 2 photocell sensors in order to determine light conditions in front of the vehicle and behind the vehicle.

During the day, the mirror is in a clear state.

At night, the mirror gradually becomes darker in order to absorb the glare of headlights from behind the vehicle.

When the ignition switch is in the RUN position, battery voltage is applied to connector cavity 1 of the automatic day/night inside rear view mirror.

When the gear selector is in the REVERSE position, battery voltage is applied to cavity 3 of the automatic day/night inside rear view mirror. The mirror gradually changes to a clear state.
