Diagnostic Aids

You cannot properly service a clutch until you know what is wrong with it. In many instances when you can not select gears can be a result of a faulty internal parts of the transmission or a faulty clutch master cylinder.

Test Description

The number(s) below refer to the step number(s) on the diagnostic table.

  1. This step explains there parts and the operation of the clutch system.

  2. This step checks for problems in the transmission.

    3.

  3. This step inspects for a faulty concentric slave cylinder.

Did you review the clutch symptom operations and perform the necessary inspections?

Check the fluid level in the master cylinder.

Is the clutch system OK?

Go to Step 3

Diagnose the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission - NV3500.

Does the clutch system operate properly?

System OK

Go to Step 4

Check the master cylinder.

Is the master cylinder worn or faulty?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 6

Replace the clutch master cylinder. Refer to Master Cylinder Replacement .

Does the clutch work now?

System OK

Go to Step 6

Inspect the concentric slave cylinder.

Is the concentric slave cylinder worn or faulty?

Go to Step 7

  1. Replace the concentric slave cylinder. Refer to Clutch Concentric Actuator Cylinder Replacement .
  2. Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?
