Seal Installer
Removal Procedure
Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
Remove the rear propeller shaft. Refer to
One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement
or
Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement
in Propeller Shaft.
Remove the rear oil seal from the rear case using the
J 6125-1B
(1) and the
J 23129
(2).
Installation Procedure
Using the
J 36503
install the new rear oil seal.
Install the rear propeller shaft. Refer to
One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement
or
Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement
in Propeller Shaft.
Check the transmission oil level. Refer to
Fluid Replacement
.
Lower the vehicle.

Removal Procedure
Remove the transfer case. Refer to
Transfer Case Assembly Replacement
.
Using the
J 36825
and the
J 23907
remove the seal from the extension housing.
Installation Procedure
Position
J 36502-2A
over the output shaft.
Using
J 36502
install the rear output shaft seal.
Remove
J 36502-2A
from the output shaft.
Fill the space between the seal lips with grease GM P/N 1052497 or equivalent.
Install the transfer case. Refer to
Transfer Case Assembly Replacement
.
Check the transmission oil level. Refer to
Fluid Replacement
Lower the vehicle.
