Rear Brake Hose Replacement Center Brake Flex Hose

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Clean all dirt and foreign material from the brake hoses and brake pipe fittings.
  3. Important: Install a rubber cap or plug to the exposed brake pipe fitting ends in order to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

  4. Use a backup wrench on the hose fitting, disconnect the brake pipe fittings from the junction block, then cap or plug the brake pipe fitting ends.

  5. Object Number: 345888  Size: SH
  6. Remove the junction block retaining bolt.
  7. Important: Install a rubber cap or plug to the exposed brake pipe fitting end in order to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

  8. Disconnect the brake pipe fitting from the flex hose.
  9. Remove the brake hose retaining clip.
  10. Remove the rear brake flex hose.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 345888  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  1. Install the rear flex hose junction block bolt to the bracket on rear drive axle.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  3. Install both brake pipes to flex hose at the rear drive axle.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the brake pipe fittings to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

    Important: The hose must not be twisted. Make sure the hose is not in contact with any suspension component.

  5. With the weight of the vehicle on the suspension, install the brake hose into the bracket.
  6. Install the brake hose retaining clip.
  7. Connect the brake pipe fitting to brake flex hose.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the brake pipe fittings to 17 N·m (13 lb ft).

  9. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding .
  10. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

Rear Brake Hose Replacement Rear Wheel Brake Flex Hose

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  3. Clean all dirt and foreign material from the brake hose and brake pipe fitting.

  4. Object Number: 623792  Size: SH

    Important: Install a rubber cap or plug to the exposed brake pipe fitting ends in order to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

  5. Use a backup wrench on the hose fitting, disconnect the brake pipe fitting from the brake hose, then cap or plug the brake pipe fitting end.
  6. Remove the brake flex hose retaining clip.
  7. Remove the hose from the bracket.

  9. Remove the brake hose to caliper bolt from the brake caliper.
  10. Remove the brake hose from the brake caliper.
  11. Remove and discard the 2 copper brake hose gaskets. These gaskets may be stuck to the brake caliper and/or the brake hose end.

Installation Procedure

    Important: Install NEW copper brake hose gaskets.

  1. Assemble the NEW copper brake hose gaskets, and the brake hose bolt to the brake hose.

  2. Object Number: 357441  Size: SH

  3. Install the brake hose to caliper bolt and NEW washers to the brake caliper.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 44 N·m (33 lb ft).

    Important: The hose must not be twisted. Make sure the hose is not in contact with any suspension component.

  5. With the weight of the vehicle on the suspension, install the brake hose into the bracket.

  6. Object Number: 623792  Size: SH
  7. Install the retaining clip.
  8. Connect the brake pipe fitting nut to the brake hose:
  9. • Use a backup wrench on the hose fitting.
    • Do not bend the bracket or the pipe.

    Tighten
    Tighten the brake pipe fittings to 17 N·m(13 lb ft).

  10. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding .
  11. Install the rear tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  12. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
