J 42450-A Wheel Hub Cleaning Kit

Removal Procedure

The brake rotor can be removed without separating the caliper from the caliper bracket (JC1 System).

Important: Do not disconnect the brake hose from the caliper.

Notice: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.

  1. Remove the front caliper. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement .

  2. Object Number: 139 Size: SH

Notice: Support the caliper with a piece of wire to prevent damage to the brake line.

  3. Suspend the caliper.
  4. Remove the brake pads (JC1 System). Refer to Front Disc Brake Pads Replacement .
  5. Remove the caliper bracket mounting bolts and the caliper bracket (JC1 System).
  6. Remove and dispose of the sheet metal retainers (JC1 System).
  7. Remove the wheel bearings (JM3 System). Refer to Front Wheel Hub, Bearing, and Seal Replacement in Front Suspension.
  8. Remove the rotor.
  9. Inspect and clean all the parts. Replace parts as necessary.
  10. Refinish the rotor if required. Refer to Brake Rotor Refinishing

Installation Procedure

Notice: Whenever the brake rotor has been separated from the wheel bearing flange, clean any rust or foreign material from the mating surface of the rotor and flange with the J 42450 hub cleaning kit. Failure to do this may result in increased lateral runout of the rotor and brake pulsation.

    Object Number: 409872 Size: SH
  1. Use the J 42450-A to clean the hub flange (JC1 System).
  2. Install the wheel bearings (JM3 System). Refer to Front Wheel Hub, Bearing, and Seal Replacement in Front Suspension.
  3. Install the rotor.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the caliper bracket and the caliper bracket mounting bolts (JC1 System).
  6. Tighten
Tighten the caliper bracket mounting bolts to 180 N·m (133 lb ft).

  7. Install the brake pads (JC1 System). Refer to Front Disc Brake Pads Replacement .
  8. Install the front caliper. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Replacement .
  9. Burnish replaced or refinished rotors. Refer to Brake Pad and Rotor Burnishing .
