Removal Procedure
- Remove the transmission oil level indicator.
- Remove the bolt securing the oil level indicator tube to the engine.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
in General Information.
- Remove the exhaust manifold pipe. Refer to
Exhaust Manifold Pipe Replacement
in Engine Exhaust.
- Remove the rear propeller shaft. Refer to
Rear Propeller Shaft Replacement
in Propeller Shaft.
- Support the transmission and transfer case, if equipped, with
a suitable jack.
- Remove the transmission cross member. Refer to
Transmission Support Replacement
in Frame and Body.
- Lower the transmission to gain access to the bolt securing the
filler tube to the transmission torque converter housing.
- Remove the bolt securing
the filler tube to the torque converter housing.
- Remove the filler tube and seal from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
- Install a new seal into
the transmission case.
- Install the filler tube into the seal.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the bolt
securing the filler tube to the transmission torque converter housing.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 47 N·m (35 lb ft).
- Raise the transmission.
- Install the transmission cross member. Refer to
Transmission Support Replacement
in Frame and Body.
- Install the rear propeller shaft. Refer to
Rear Propeller Shaft Replacement
in Propeller Shaft.
- Install the exhaust manifold pipe. Refer to
Exhaust Manifold Pipe Replacement
in Engine Exhaust.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the indicator
tube to the engine.
- Install the bolt securing the oil level indicator tube to the
engine.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 47 N·m (35 lb ft).
- Install the transmission oil level indicator.
- Fill the transmission with fluid as required.
