Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 421408  Size: SH
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
  2. Remove the upper and lower trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement .
  3. Important: When removing the horn contact, the horn contact spring may become a projectile. Remove slowly.

  4. Remove the horn contact (2) from the signal switch housing assembly (1)using the following procedure:
  5. 3.1. Turn the horn contact plunger to release the plunger from the signal switch housing assembly (1).
    3.2. Remove the horn contact (2) and the spring.

  6. Remove the wire harness straps (1) from the steering column and from the wire harness assembly.

  7. Object Number: 421410  Size: SH
  8. Disconnect the connectors on the wire harness assembly.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 421410  Size: SH
  1. Connect the connectors on the steering column wire harness assembly.

  2. Object Number: 421408  Size: SH
  3. Insert the horn contact spring and the horn contact (2) into the signal switch housing assembly (1).
  4. Insert the horn contact plunger into the signal switch housing assembly (1) and turn the plunger to lock in place.

  5. Object Number: 421403  Size: SH

    Caution: Improper routing of the wire harness assembly may damage the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil. This may result in a malfunction of the coil, which may cause personal injury.

  6. Install the wire harness straps (1) to the harness assembly and to the steering column.
  7. Install the upper and the lower trim covers. Refer to Steering Column Trim Covers Replacement .
  8. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
