Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 177415 Size: SH
  1. Install the upper ball joint to the upper control arm.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the upper ball joint retaining bolts and the nuts.
  4. Tighten
Tighten the upper ball joint retaining nuts to 23 N·m (17 lb ft).

    Object Number: 1986 Size: SH
  5. Install the upper ball joint to the steering knuckle.
  6. Install the upper ball joint to steering knuckle retaining nut.
  7. Tighten

        • Tighten the upper ball joint to steering knuckle retaining nut to 83 N·m (61 lb ft).
        • Tighten the upper ball joint to steering knuckle nut in order to align for the cotter pin. Do not tighten the nut more than 1/6 turn.
  8. Install the new cotter pin to the upper ball joint stud. Bend the pin ends against the nut.
