Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  2. Object Number: 102878  Size: SH
  3. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor electrical connector.

  4. Object Number: 4779  Size: SH
  5. Remove the vehicle speed sensor bolt.
  6. Remove the vehicle speed sensor.

Installation Procedure

  1. Coat the O-ring seal with a thin film of transmission oil. Use Synchro-mesh Transmission Fluid GM P/N 12345349 or the equivalent.

  2. Object Number: 4779  Size: SH
  3. Install the vehicle speed sensor.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the vehicle speed sensor bolt.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

  7. Connect the vehicle speed sensor electrical connector.
  8. Check and fill the transmission fluid as necessary.
  9. Lower the vehicle.
