A new lift-off panel sealingstrip sealing material was introduced into 1984 Camaro production in March of 1984. This material replaces the double backed sealing tape previously installed on the sealingstrip. The material is packaged by Dominion Sure Seal, under part number BTP, in 100 foot rolls.
If a lift-off panel weatherstrip butt joint water leak is encountered on styles built before March of 1984, it may be caused by inadequate sealing of the sealing- strip to the lift-off panel support. To correct this condition, the following procedure should be followed.
1. Remove lift-off panel and place on a clean protected surface.
2. Remove lift-off panel weatherstrip, weatherstrip retainer and sealingstrip, following Service Manual procedure.
3. Clean the double backed tape from the sealingstrip.
4. Install Dominion Sure Seal Strip Sealer (BTP) to lift-off glass panel support, as shown in illustration.
5. Install sealingstrip, weatherstrip retainer and weatherstrip as described in the Service Manual. To locate the nearest sure seal distributor in your area, please call collect (416) 625-7900.
Use applicable labor operation.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
