NEW LIFT-OFF PANEL SEALING STRIP

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1978 Through 1984 'F' Styles

A new lift-off panel sealingstrip sealing material was introduced into 1984 "F" production in March of 1984. This material replaces the double backed sealing tape previously installed on the sealingstrip. The new material is packaged by Dominion Sure Seal, under part number BTP, in 100 foot rolls.

If a lift-off panel weatherstrip butt joint water leak is encountered on styles built before March 1984, it may be caused by inadequate sealing of the sealingstrip to the lift-off panel support. To correct this condition, the following procedure should be followed.

1. Remove the lift-off panel and place on a clean protected surface.

2. Remove the lift-off panel weatherstrip, weatherstrip retainer and sealingstrip, following the Service Manual procedure.

3. Clean the duuble backed tape from the sealingstrip.

4. Install Dominion Sure Seal Strip Sealer (BTP) (or equivalent) to the lift-off glass panel support as shown in the illustration.

5. Install the sealingstrip, weatherstrip retainer and weatherstrip as described in the Service Manual.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
