Beginning May 3, 1982, a new forward sprag clutch entered production replacing the forward roller clutch on all 700-R4 transmissions.
The forward sprag clutch will be serviced as a kit for all transmissions built prior to May, 1982. The conversion kit, P/N 8642947, will consist of:
a. Snap ring - overrun clutch hub b. Overrun clutch hub c. Wear plate d. Forward sprag clutch assembly e. Retainer and race assembly f. Forward sprag outer race g. Input sun gear assembly h. Input carrier assembly i. Thrust washer j. Instruction sheet
The following individual part numbers can be used to service all transmissions which have a forward sprag clutch or have been converted.
