The 1982 Camaro and Citation-Celebrity Shop Manuals do not contain information on the vacuum pump used on the 2.5L L-4 engine when equipped with automatic speed control.
This vacuum pump is installed on the engine in the same location where the mechanical fuel pump was in prior years. This vacuum pump is operated by a lobe on the camshaft.
To test the pump, remove the vacuum lines from both ports at the pump and plug the hose openings. Install a vacuum gage to the "inlet" port. Block the drive wheels, apply the parking brake firmly and place the selector lever in "park". Start the engine and operate it at idle while observing the vacuum gage. After one (1) minute of engine operation, the minimum vacuum reading should be 53.0 kPa (15.0") Hg.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
