On some 1982 Camaros, when the seat is moved fore and aft, a snapping noise is heard. The snapping noise is caused by the lower tabs of the upper cover contacting the lower adjuster channel. This condition can be corrected by removing cover material as described below.
(1) Slide seat assembly rearward and remove adjuster-to-seat frame rear attaching bolts.
(2) Lift upward on seat and remove upper channel rear covers.
(3) Cut cover tabs with compound leverage snips (straight cut) or similar tool as shown in illustration.
(4) Finish edges using a fine file.
(5) Install covers fully forward over seat adjuster upper channels and install adjuster to frame attaching bolts and torque to 20 to 28 N.m (15 ft. lbs. to 21 ft. lbs.).
(6) For additional clearance, loosen and lower rear lower adjuster covers.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
