PARKING BRAKE CABLE RATTLE REPAIR PROCEDURE

Some early built 1982 Camaros may exhibit a rattle condition due to the left parking brake cable contacting the track bar body bracket.

The above condition has been corrected in production by incorporating usage of a foam insulating sleeve on the left parking brake cable.

To correct vehicles exhibiting this condition, a foam sleeve, 11mm I.D., 28mm O.D. and 83mm long, can be split and glued in position on the brake cable directly under the track bar body bracket. On drum brake vehicles, this would be approximately 380mm from the backing plate and 365mm on disc brake vehicles.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
