CLUTCH HOUSING TURBINE SHAFT REDESIGN THM 700-R4

BEGINNING EARLY IN THE 1983 MODEL YEAR, THE 700-R4 TRANSMISSION TURBINE SHAFT WHICH IS PRESSED INTO THE INPUT CLUTCH HOUSING, WAS REDESIGNED TO ACCOMODATE A 245 MM DIAMETER CONVERTER ASSEMBLY. THE FIRST DESIGN, WHICH IS STILL USED IN SOME APPLICATIONS, IS DESIGNED TO ACCOMODATE A 298 MM DIAMETER CONVERTER ASSEMBLY. (FIGURE 1.) WHEN SERVICING ANY THM 700-R4 TRANSMISSION THAT NECESSITATES REPLACING THE INPUT CLUTCH HOUSING. REFER TO THE FOLLOWING CHART FOR ORDERING PARTS: INPUT CLUTCH HOUSING & SHAFT ASM. FIRST DESIGN (FIGURE #1) PART NO. 8647127 SECOND DESIGN (FIGURE #2) PART NO. 8647128 IDENTIFICATION "O" RING AND SMALL JOURNAL ARE ABOVE SPLINE IDENTIFICATION "O" RING IS BELOW SPLINE WITH NO SMALL JOURNAL MODEL USAGE YN,YG,YP,YK,Y9,TC,MB,MC,MJ,VN,TE,TH,TK,MD,ME,MK,MW,VH,TS, TZ,T8,TP,MH,VJ,TL,TD MODEL USAGE T2,VA,ML,MP,MS,T7,YH,YF,PQ IF THE RETAINER ASM-BALL CHECK VALUE CAPSULE LOCATED IN THE SPLINE END OF THE TURBINE SHAFT OR THE TURBINE SHAFT "O" RING SHOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED, ORDER REPLACEMENT PARTS AS PER THE FOLLOWING CHART: INPUT HSG. & SHAFT ASM. FIRST DESIGN (FIGURE #1) PART NO. 8647127 RETAINER ASM BALL CHECK CAPSULE PART NO. 8634503 "O" RING PART NO. 8630049 INPUT HSG.& SHAFT ASM. SECOND DESIGN (FIGURE #2) PART NO. 8647128 RETAINER ASM BALL CHECK CAPSULE PART NO. 8647037 "O" RING PART NO. 8636033 FOLLOW YOUR SERVICE MANUAL GUIDELINES WHEN INSTALLING THE RETAINER ASM, BALL CHECK CAPSULE. THE TURBINE SHAFT "O" RING SHOULD NOT BE INSTALLED UNTIL AFTER THE OIL PUMP ASSEMBLY IS INSTALLED TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE "O" RING.
