CAMPAIGN: WATER IN AIR CLEANER Z28 WITH RPO LU5

Some 1982 and early production 1983 Z28 Camaros equipped with 5.0 liter Cross Fire Injection Engines are subject to a potential no start condition. This could occur as a result of water entering the engine through the hood air induction system and air cleaner cover.

Water entry can cause engine damage. Current production of the 1983 Z28 Camaro uses a design which will entirely prevent water entry through the air induction system. Chevrolet is offering the current design to owners of all 1982 and early production 1983 Z28 Camaros equipped with 5.0 liter Cross Fire Injection Engines (RPO LU5).

To prevent the possibility of this condition occurring, it will be necessary to install the new improved air cleaner cover and hold down nuts.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
