INOP. HEADLAMPS/TURN SIGNAL REPLACE RELAY UNIT

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1984 Berlinetta

Some early Berlinetta may exhibit a condition which will not allow the headlamps to be turned on or the turn signals to operate. This will occur only if the ambient temperature in the passenger compartment is at or below freezing temperatures. When the passenger compartment warms up, the switch may be turned on.

The cause of this condition is the interior and exterior lamp relay unit (light module), P/N 111592 does not change its function at very low temperatures, but at normal passenger compartment temperatures.

If this condition is experienced by the customer, replace the relay unit. The relay unit is located on the right hand side of the vehicle, under the dash, adjacent to and on the same bracket as the ECM (see illustration).

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
