General Motors of Canada has determined certain 1984-1985 Camaro, Firebird and Monte Carlo models with 5.0L V8 engine and 1984-1985 Chevrolet Corvette models with 5.7L V8 engine may exhibit declining ignition voltage of the high output ignition coil.
High ignition coil temperatures combined with the stress of higher voltage may break down the epoxy coating of the high output ignition coil secondary windings. Declining ignition voltage may lead to engine misfire, hesitation, sags, or no re-start. Correction will consist of replaceing the high outpt ignition coil and module, revising spark plug gap and installing a spark plug gap revision label.
Involved are certain 1984-1985 Camaro, Firebird and Monte Carlo models with 5.0L V8 engine and 1984-1985 Chevrolet Corvette models with 5.7L V8 engine within the following parameters:

All affected vehicles have been identified by the VIN listing provides to involved Dealers with this bulletin. Any Dealer not receiving a listing was not shipped any of the affected vehicles.
Dealers are to Service all vehicles subject to this campaign at no charge to owners, regardless of mileage, age of vehicle, or ownership, from this time forward.
Whenever a vehicle subject to this campaign is taken into your new or used vehicle inventory, or it is in your Dealership for service in the future, you should take the steps necessary to be sure the campaign correction has been made before reselling or releasing the vehicle.
Owners of vehicles recently sold from your new vehicle inventory are to be contacted by the Dealer, and arrangements made to make the required modification according to instructions contained in this bulletin.
Refer to Section 4 of the Service Policies and Procedures Manual for the detailed procedure on handling Product Campaigns. Dealers are requested to complete the campaign on all transfers as soon as possible.
All owners of record at the time of campaign release are shown on the attached computer listing and have been notified by first class mail from General Motors. The listings provided are for campaign activity only and should not be used for any other purpose.

Time allowance includes 0.1 hour for Dealer administrative detail associated with this campaign. Parts credit will be based on Dealer net plus 30% to cover parts handling.
1. Open hood.
2. Replace the high output coil and distributor module with standard output coil and module. Refer to applicable vehicle Shop Manual, Section 6D for replacement instructions.
3. Remove and regap spark plugs to .035 inch.
4. Check and reset ignition timing to specifications as indicated on the vehicle emissions label.
5. Install spark plug gap revision label provided with this bulletin. This label should be affixed beside existing emission control (tune-up) label. Additional labels can be attained from your Zone Service Department.
6. Install campaign completion label. Close hood.
Clean surface of radiator upper mounting panel and apply a Campaign Identification Label. Make sure the correct campaign number is inserted on the label. This will indicate that the campaign has been completed.

To correct this condition on your vehicle your Dealer will replace the high output ignition coil and module. In addition, he will revise the spark plug gap and install a spark plug gap revision Label. These repairs will be perfomed at no charge to you.
Instructions for making this correction have been sent to your Dealer. The labour time to perform this service is approximately 1 hour, 20 minutes. Please allow additional time for your Dealer to process your vehicle.
This tetter identifies your vehicle. Presentation of this letter to your Dealer will assist their Service personnel in completing the necessary correction to your vehicle in the shortest possible time.
