A/C OR HEATER WIRE HARNESS MAY BE CUT BY IGNITION COIL

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1985 'F' Series With LQ9 2.5L L-4 Engine

CONDITION:

---------- The A/C or heater wire harness may be cut by the ignition coil, approximately four inches (100 mm) from where the harness comes through the bulkhead. This can result in a loss of A/C or heater operation.

CAUSE:

------ Harness is routed too close to the ignition coil.

CORRECTION:

----------- Use the procedure below to correct this condition.

1. Disconnect negative battery cable.

2. Hoist vehicle.

3. Repair any damaged wires, if wires are cut and must be soldered to repair, use 'other labour hours' for additional time.

4. Tape harness in repaired area with electrical tape.

5. Drill a 1/8 inch hole (3.2mm) in the bulkhead, between the grommet and heater case, slightly above the grommet.

6. Attach clip, (P/N 9787673 or equivalent) to bulkhead using screw, P/N 11504874 or equivalent), (M 4.2 x 1.41 x 13 self-tapping).

7. Attach wire harness to clip, making sure harness is at least one inch (25 mm) from ignition coil.

8. Lower vehicle.

9. Reconnect negative battery cable.

Use the most applicable labour operation from the Canadian Labour Time Guide and claim 0.3 hours.
