After a vehicle has been accurately diagnosed as having an intermittent electrical signal from the throttle position sensor, replace the sensor with AC TPS service kit, P/N 17078274. At the same time, remove the factory installed TPS heat shield attached by the EGR bolt and replace it with a new heat shield service kit, P/N 17111750 (Figure 1). The contents of the service kit are:
Screw Assemblies - 2 Each (Hex Head) Heat Shield - Stainless Steel Graphics - Instruction Sheet
Whenever a new 300 Series TBI is purchased from GM Parts and it is not complete with the AC TPS and the stainless steel heat shield it must be retro-fitted to include the new service parts.
Use applicable labor time and labor operation numbers.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
