HEADLIGHT FLICKER/FOG LAMPS ON INSTALL RELAY KIT/SWITCH

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1985 CAMARO "IROC"

CONDITION:

--------- On the 1985 Camaro "IROC" with fog lamps, the headlamps may flicker on and off after extended driving with both fog lamps and low beam headlamps on.

CAUSE:

------

The load of both the headlamps and fog lamps may cause the headlamp switch to overheat, causing the internal circuit breaker to turn on and off. This condition occurs only on headlamp switches manufactured at the extreme low end of the tolerance band.

CORRECTION: Add a relay to the fog lamp circuit as follows:

1. Open hood and disconnect negative battery cable.

2. Remove left hand hush panel and lower I.P. trim cover.

3. Install relay kit, P/N 14103317, following instructions provided in kit.

4. Reconnect negative battery cable and check for proper operation of headlamps and fog lamps. Fog lamps should operate when the fog lamp switch is "on", and headlamp switch is in "Park" or "on". Fog lamps should go out when "high beams" are operated, and stay on with "low beams".

5. Reinstall left hand hush panel and lower I. P. trim cover.

Use the most applicable labour operation from the Canadian Labour Time Guide and claim .4 hours.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
