COMPOUNDING AND POLISHING

1. Thoroughly wash vehicle with a mild detergent and dry the vehicle.

2. The windshield, windshield molding, back glass, side glass, black louvers in the hood and the black area on the front fascia by the headlights can be cleaned using acetone. Dampen a clean cloth and wipe over the areas being careful not to get the acetone onto the regular painted surfaces. Use a clean cloth in each area being done.

NOTICE: DO NOT POUR ACETONE FROM THE CONTAINER DIRECTLY ONTO THE AREAS BEING CLEANED.

3. The painted surfaces will have to be compounded and polished.

4. Apply a small amount of medium to fine machine rubbing compound (#05955) to the area and smear evenly with a Buffing Pad (#05705) before running the wheel.

5. When running the wheel at approximately 2700 RPM, keep the pad flat against the panel and allow the weight of the wheel to do the work. Feature lines, panel edges, and areas where wheel can not be flat should be hand rubbed to avoid burn-through. Check the repair area frequently and, if necessary, add more compound until all overspray is removed.

6. Remove excess compound from the vehicle prior to the next step.

7. The following step is required to remove the fine scratches. Apply a small amount of polish (#05928) to the area and smear evenly with a new Polishing Pad (#05705) before running the wheel.

8. When running the wheel at approximately 2700 RPM, keep the pad flat against the panel and allow the weight of polisher to do the work. Use polish sparingly to achieve original shine. Machine or hand polish repair area first, then blend in with rest of panel.

9. A final application of polish is to be applied with a non-directional, dual action (D.A.) orbital buffer. This is to remove the swirl marks which were left after the polishing procedure. A clean terry cloth polishing bonnet and polish should be used.

10. Apply the polishing material (#05928) using the orbital buffer pad to evenly smear the polish before running the buffer.

11. When running the orbital buffer at approximately 9000 RPM, keep the pad flat and allow the weight of the buffer to do the work. using a slow circular motion, move the buffer over the polished area.

12. After the orbital buff, wipe the surface with a clean terry cloth, dampened with an alcohol/water mixture.

13. Vehicles with option DE1, rear window louvers, will have to have new louvers installed if the overspray is on the louvers. Order P/N 10031857, remove and replace the old louvers.
