Difficulties in unlocking doors with power door locks on 1988 Camaro/Firebirds may be due to an insufficient bend in the lock knob to door lock rod. Note: Manual unlocking of the door is not affected, only unlocking when using power door lock switches.
This condition can be identified (after door trim panel removal) by a gap between the rear end of the slot on the power door lock bellcrank and the bend on the door locking rod when in locked position.
New lock rods are available from GMSPO to correct this condition and the part numbers are as follows:
P/N 10131128 Right Side Locking Rod
P/N 10131129 Left Side'Locking Rod
Use applicable labor operation number and labor time.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
