INSTRUMENT PANEL SQUEAKS & POPPING NOISE (ADHESIVE FELT)

SUBJECT: CENTRE INSTRUMENT PANEL SQUEAK/POPPING NOISE (PLACE ADHESIVE BACK FELT IN AREAS OF CONTACT)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1988-91 CHEVROLET CAMARO 'F'

Condition:

------------ Centre instrument panel squeak. Also, centre instrument panel popping noise.

Cause:

------- Contact between instrument panel and centre console.

Correction:

------------ 1. Remove centre console by following Service Manual procedures.

2. Place adhesive-backed felt in areas of contact. Refer to Figure 1.

3. Additionally, measure distance from horizontal felted surface to centre of instrument panel wiring harness rosebud retainer. If distance is approximately 15mm (1 1/16 inch), relocate the retainer by drilling a 6mm (1/4 inch) hole in the instrument panel approximately 10mm (7/16 inch) below the existing hole and moving the rosebud harness fastener to the new hole. Refer to Figure 1,

4. Reinstall centre console using Service Manual procedures.
