Removal Procedure
- Remove the intake manifold. Refer to
Intake Manifold Replacement
.
- Remove the valve rocker arm covers. Refer to
Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement
.
- Remove the valve rocker arms and the pushrods. Refer to
Valve Rocker Arm, Push Rod, and Stud Replacement
.
- Remove the valve lifter
guide retainer and the bolts.
Important: Valve lifters that are stuck in the bores due to gum or varnish deposits
can be removed using the J 3049-A
or the J 9290-01
.
- Remove the valve lifter guide and the valve lifter.
- Inspect the valve lifters. Refer to Valve Train
Components Clean and Inspect
.
Installation Procedure
- Coat the valve lifter
rollers with pre lube, GM P/N 1052365 or the equivalent.
- Install the valve lifters in the same location from which they
were removed.
- Install the valve lifter guides.
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the valve lifter guide retainer,
and the bolts.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).
- Install the valve rocker arms and the pushrods. Refer to
Valve Rocker Arm, Push Rod, and Stud Replacement
.
- Install the valve rocker arm covers. Refer to
Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement
.
- Install the intake manifold. Refer to
Intake Manifold Replacement
.
