Removal Procedure

Tool Required

J 39046 Crankshaft Hub Remover/Installer

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to SECTION 0A.
  2. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .

  3. Object Number: 51238  Size: SH
  4. Remove the crankshaft balancer bolts.
  5. Remove the crankshaft balancer.
  6. Match-mark crankshaft hub to the engine front cover.
  7. Do not crank the engine over after match-marking crankshaft hub and the engine front cover. Do not rotate the crankshaft in order to avoid misalignment of the crankshaft balancer.

  8. Object Number: 11501  Size: SH
  9. Remove the crankshaft hub bolt and the crankshaft washer.
  10. Remove the crankshaft hub using the J 39046 .
  11. If the engine should accidentally be cranked over after match marking the hub and the engine front cover, install the crankshaft hub as follows:
  12. 9.1. Set the number 1 piston to the top dead center.
    9.2. Install the crankshaft hub with the cast arrow on the hub in the 12 o'clock position.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 11501  Size: SH
  1. Install the crankshaft hub using the J 39046 .
  2. Install the crankshaft hub washer and the bolt.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the crankshaft balancer hub bolt to 100 N·m (74 lb ft).

    Important: If the balancer is replaced, a new balance weight of the same size must be installed on the new balancer in the same hole locations as the old balancer.

  4. Install the crankshaft balancer.
  5. Install the crankshaft balancer bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the crankshaft balancer hub bolt to 85 N·m (63 lb ft).

  7. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  8. Lower the vehicle.
