Generator Replacement LT1

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Remove the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement
  3. Lower the vehicle.

  5. Disconnect the positive battery cable from the generator BAT terminal.
  6. Disconnect the generator electrical connector

  7. Object Number: 43658  Size: SH
  8. Remove the generator bolts and the nut

  9. Object Number: 43659  Size: SH
  10. Remove the generator rear nut and the bolt
  11. Remove the generator rear inner brace.
  12. Remove the generator from the accessory mounting bracket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 43659  Size: SH
  1. Install the generator to the accessory mounting bracket.
  2. Install the generator rear inner brace.
  3. Install the generator rear brace nut.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 33 N·m (24 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the generator bolt.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the generator nut and the bolt.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  9. Connect the generator electrical connector

  11. Connect the positive battery cable to the generator BAT terminal.
  12. Tighten
    Tighten the battery positive cable nut to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

  13. Raise the vehicle. Suitably support the vehicle. Refer to section 0A.
  14. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement
  15. Connect the negative battery cable.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the negative battery cable to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

Removal Procedure

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement
  3. Disconnect the generator electrical connector.
  4. Remove the positive battery cable nut from the generator BAT terminal.
  5. Remove the charcoal canister solenoid from the generator brace.

  7. Remove the generator rear brace bolt.

  8. Object Number: 43850  Size: SH
  9. Remove the generator bolts.
  10. Remove the generator from the drive belt tensioner.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 43850  Size: SH
  1. Install the generator to the drive belt tensioner.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the generator bolts.
  4. Tighten

        • Tighten the bolt (1) to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).
        • Tighten the bolt (2) to 52 N·m (38 lb ft).
  5. Install the charcoal canister solenoid on the generator rear brace.

  6. Object Number: 43656  Size: SH
  7. Install the generator brace bolt.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).


    Object Number: 43670  Size: SH
  9. Install the positive battery cable nut on the generator BAT terminal.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  11. Connect the generator electrical connector.
  12. Install the drive belt.
  13. Connect the negative battery cable.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the negative battery cable to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
