Removal Procedure
• | J 41044 Engine Support Adapters |
Notice: When raising or supporting the engine for any reason, do not use a jack
under the oil pan, crankshaft balancer, or any sheet metal. Due to small clearances
between the oil pan and the oil pump screen, jacking against the oil pan may
cause it to be bent against the pump screen, resulting in a damaged oil pickup
unit. Jacking against the crankshaft balancer may also cause oil seal and/or
crankshaft bearing damage. Always use a J 28467-A (Universal
Support Fixture) along with J 41044 (Engine Support Adapters) when raising
or supporting the engine.
- Measure engine movement at the engine mounts in order to check
for damage to the rubber portions of the mount. Use the following procedure:
1.1. | Apply the parking brake. |
1.3. | Firmly apply primary brakes. |
1.4. | With an assistant observing engine movement, slightly load the
engine in R (Reverse) and D (Drive). If the engine moves more than 24 mm
(0.945 in) from the at rest position, in either direction, check the
engine mount attachment. |
- If the engine mount attachment is within specifications, replace
the engine mount.
- Remove the generator. Refer to
Generator Replacement
in Engine Electrical.
- Remove the ignition control module. Refer to
Ignition Coil and Ignition Coil Module
in Engine
Electrical.
- Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle suitably.
- Remove the exhaust catalytic converter pipe. Refer to Catalytic
Converter Pipe Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
- Remove the right side engine mount through bolt nuts.
- Remove the left side engine mount through bolt nuts.
- Remove the transmission oil cooler lines from the engine mount
bracket.
- Remove the A/C compressor. Refer to SECTION 1B.
- Position the A/C compressor forward. Do this in order to remove
the engine mount through bolt without recovering the refrigerant.
- Install the J 28467-A
and the J 41044. Do this in order to remove the through bolt.
- Remove the right engine mount through bolts.
- Remove the left engine mount through bolts.
- Raise the engine.
- Remove the right engine mount bolts and the right engine mount.
- Remove the left engine mount bolts and the left engine mount.
- Remove the right engine mount bracket fasteners and the right engine mount
bracket.
- Remove the left engine mount bracket fasteners and the left engine mount bracket.
- Inspect the rubber portions of the engine mount for damage.
Installation Procedure
- Install the right engine mount bracket.
- Install the left engine mount bracket.
- Install the engine bracket fasteners.
Tighten
• | Tighten the engine mount bracket bolts to 100 N·m
(74 lb ft). |
• | Tighten the engine/ transmission brace mount bracket bolts to
50 N·m (37 lb ft). |
• | Tighten the engine mount bracket studs to 100 N·m
(74 lb ft). |
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the right engine mount.
- Install the left engine mount.
- Install the engine mount bolts.

- Lower the engine.
- Install the right engine mount through bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 95 N·m (70 lb ft).
- Install the left engine mount through bolt.
Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 95 N·m (70 lb ft).
- Install the engine mount nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 80 N·m (59 lb ft).
- Install the A/C compressor. Refer to SECTION 1B.
- Install the transmission oil cooler lines to the engine mount
bracket.
- Install the exhaust catalytic converter pipe. Refer to Catalytic
Converter Pipe Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the generator. Refer to
Generator Replacement
in Engine Electrical.
- Install the ignition control module. Refer to
