    Object Number: 17300 Size: SH

Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Remove the air intake duct.
  3. Disconnect the secondary ignition coil wire.
  4. Disconnect the ignition coil electrical connectors.
  5. Remove the ignition coil studs fuel canister purge tube retainer.
  6. Remove the ignition coil from the cylinder head.

  7. Object Number: 21392 Size: SH

Important: Do not wipe away the silicone grease from the back of the bracket.

  8. Remove the ignition coil from the bracket. Drill out the rivets.

Installation Procedure

Notice: A package of silicone grease is included with a new ICM. This grease is necessary for ignition coil and ICM cooling.

  1. Apply silicone grease to the mounting face of the ignition coil bracket.

  2. Object Number: 21392 Size: SH
  3. Use the bolts and nuts that are provided with the coil in order to install the ignition coil to the bracket.
  4. Tighten
Tighten the ignition coil bracket bolts to 2.8 N·m (25 lb in).

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the ignition coil to the cylinder head.

  6. Object Number: 17300 Size: SH
  7. Install the ignition coil studs and fuel canister purge tube retainer.
  8. Tighten
Tighten the ignition coil bolt and studs to 40 N·m (30 lb ft).

  9. Install the ignition coil connectors.
  10. Install the secondary ignition coil wire.
  11. Install the negative battery cable.
  12. Tighten
Tighten the negative battery cable to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
