Exhaust Manifold Replacement Left Side

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Remove the EGR valve adapter from the exhaust manifold.
  3. Remove the oil level indicator. Remove the oil level indicator tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement .
  4. Remove the exhaust manifold heat sheild nuts.

  6. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shields.
  7. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle suitably. Refer to SECTION 0A.
  8. Remove the exhaust catalytic converter pipe. Refer to Catalytic Converter Pipe Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  9. Remove the oxygen sensor electrical connector.
  10. Disconnect the spark plug wires from the spark plugs.
  11. Lower the vehicle.

  13. Remove the exhaust manifold bolts and studs.
  14. Remove the exhaust manifold.
  15. Remove the exhaust manifold gasket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 36635  Size: SH
  1. Install the exhaust manifold gasket.
  2. Install the exhaust manifold.
  3. Install the exhaust manifold studs.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the studs to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the exhaust manifold bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  7. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle suitably. Refer to SECTION 0A.
  8. Install the oxygen electrical connector.
  9. Install the exhaust catalytic converter pipe. Refer to Catalytic Converter Pipe Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  10. Connect the spark plug wires to the spark plugs.
  11. Lower the vehicle.

  13. Install the exhaust manifold heat shields.
  14. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield nuts.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  16. Install the oil level indicator tube. Refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube Replacement .

  17. Object Number: 36618  Size: SH
  18. Install the EGR valve adapter to the exhaust manifold.
  19. Install the EGR valve adapter bolt.
  20. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  21. Inspect the EGR valve adapter tube for leaks. If leaks exist, replace the EGR valve adapter.
  22. Connect the negative battery cable.

Exhaust Manifold Replacement Right Side

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the negative battery cable.

  3. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shield nuts.
  4. Remove the exhaust manifold heat shields.
  5. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle suitably. Refer to SECTION 0A.
  6. Remove the exhaust catalytic converter pipe. Refer to Catalytic Converter Pipe Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  7. Remove the oxygen sensor electrical connector.
  8. Disconnect the spark plug wires from the spark plugs.
  9. Lower the vehicle.

  11. Remove the exhaust manifold studs and bolts.
  12. Remove the exhaust manifold.
  13. Remove the exhaust manifold gasket.
  14. Clean the exhaust manifold and cylinder head gasket surfaces.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 36652  Size: SH
  1. Install the exhaust manifold gasket.
  2. Install the exhaust manifold.
  3. Install the exhaust manifold studs and bolts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the studs and bolts to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  12. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield nuts.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the nuts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  14. Connect the negative battery cable.
