- Clean all parts in a suitable sovent. Remove all varnish, sludge
and dirt.
- Remove all traces of old gasket from the front cover and engine
block.
- Inspect the pump cover and the front cover for the following conditions:

- Inspect the pressure regulator valve for the following conditions:
- Inspect the pressure regulator spring for the following conditions:
- Inspect the oil pump gears for the following conditions:
- Measure the inner gear tip clearance
- Measure the outer gear tip clearance
- Measure the gear end clearance (gear drop
in housing)
- Measure the pressure regulator valve for valve to bore clearance.
- Lubricate the gears with petroleum jelly.
- assemble the gears in the housing.
- Pack the gear cavity with petroleum jelly.
- Install the oil pump cover and screws.
Tighten
Tighten the screws to 11 N·m (98 lb in).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners
must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring
replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant
are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or
corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified.
These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage
the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when
installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
- Install the pressure regulator spring and valve.
- Install the oil filter adapter with a new gasket.
Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
- Install the front cover.
