Master Cylinder Description 5-Speed

Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 36221 Hydraulic Clutch Line Separator

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable assembly from the battery negative terminal. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Remove the instrument panel driver knee bolster. Refer to SECTION 8C.

  4. Remove the clutch master cylinder pushrod from the clutch pedal.

  6. Remove the clutch master cylinder nuts from the dash panel.
  7. Remove the clutch master cylinder U-bolt from the dash panel.
  8. Remove the clutch master cylinder from the dash panel.

  9. Object Number: 33513  Size: SH
  10. Remove the clutch master cylinder reservoir retainer.
  11. Remove the clutch master cylinder reservoir from the left-hand hood strut bracket.
  12. Raise the vehicle. Refer to SECTION 0A.

  14. Remove the actuator cylinder line from the actuator cylinder using the J 36221 .
  15. Remove the clutch master cylinder from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the clutch master cylinder to the vehicle.
  2. Important: Make sure the braded clutch actuator line is not twisted or kinked. The line must be maintained away from other components in order to avoid line damage.

    The quick connect must be pushed on, then pulled back in order to verify engagement. Do not rely on the audible click or a visual verification.

  3. Install the actuator cylinder line to the actuator cylinder.
  4. Lower the vehicle.

  6. Install the clutch master cylinder to the dash panel.
  7. Install the clutch master cylinder U-bolt to the dash panel.
  8. Install the clutch master cylinder nuts.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the clutch master cylinder nuts to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  10. Install the clutch master cylinder reservoir to the left-hand hood strut bracket.
  11. Install the clutch master cylinder reservoir retainer.

  13. Install the clutch master cylinder pushrod to the clutch pedal.
  14. Install the instrument panel driver knee bolster. Refer to SECTION 8C.

  15. Object Number: 38205  Size: SH
  16. Connect the battery negative cable assembly to the battery negative terminal.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the terminal bolt to 15 N·m(11 lb ft).

  18. Bleed the clutch hydraulic system. Refer to Hydraulic Clutch Bleeding .
