Removal Procedure

  1. Drain the engine coolant. Refer to SECTION 6B.
  2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in this section.
  3. Remove the transmission oil dipstick from the filler tube, if necessary.
  4. Remove the EVAP purge solenoid from the generator bracket.
  5. Remove the generator. Refer to SECTION 6D3.
  6. Remove the heater hoses from the drive belt tensioner. Refer to SECTION 1B.

  8. Remove the drive belt tensioner bolts.
  9. Important: The drive belt tensioner must be rotated if it is difficult to remove. Pulling the tensioner from top may damage the engine front cover. If necessary, break the plastic heater water bypass inlet pipe to allow rotation of the drive belt tensioner and replace the pipe during installation.

  10. Remove the drive belt tensioner.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the drive belt tensioner.
  2. Install the drive belt tensioner bolts.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the heater hoses to the drive belt tensioner. Refer to SECTION 1B.
  5. Install the generator. Refer to SECTION 6D3.
  6. Install the EVAP purge solenoid to the generator bracket.
  7. Install the transmission oil dipstick to the filler tube, if necessary.
  8. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  9. Refill the engine coolant. Refer to SECTION 6B.
