Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the instrument panel driver knee bolster. Refer to Section 8C.

  2. Object Number: 33511  Size: SH
  3. Remove the clutch master cylinder pushrod from the clutch pedal.
  4. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Section 0A.
  5. Remove the 6-Speed manual transmission. Refer to Transmission Removal in Manual Transmission.

  6. Object Number: 36302  Size: SH
  7. Remove the flywheel housing cover bolts.
  8. Remove the flywheel housing cover.

  9. Object Number: 36303  Size: SH
  10. Remove the flywheel housing bolts.
  11. Remove the flywheel housing.

  12. Object Number: 36313  Size: SH
  13. Remove the clutch pressure plate and cover bolts.
  14. Remove the clutch pressure plate with cover and the clutch disc.

  15. Object Number: 36325  Size: SH
  16. Remove the clutch release bearing retainer.
  17. Remove the clutch release bearing.

  18. Object Number: 36328  Size: SH
  19. Remove the clutch fork from the manual transmission.
  20. Remove the bolt and the clutch fork T-stud from the manual transmission.
  21. Inspect the clutch release bearing, clutch fork, and clutch fork T-stud for wear or damage. Replace as necessary.

Installation Procedure

Tools Required:

J 38836 Clutch Alignment Arbor


    Object Number: 36328  Size: SH
  1. Install the clutch fork T-stud and bolt.
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 24 N·m (18 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Lubricate the clutch fork T-stud. Use wheel bearing lubricant GM P/N 1051344, or equivalent.
  4. Important: Do not fully seat the clutch fork on the clutch fork T-stud until after installation of the 6-Speed manual transmission. It will fully seat itself when the transmission is installed.

  5. Install the clutch fork on the clutch fork T-stud at the first detent position.

  6. Object Number: 36325  Size: SH
  7. Install the clutch release bearing assembly to the clutch pressure plate assembly with cover.
  8. Install the release bearing retainer.

  9. Object Number: 36313  Size: SH
  10. Install the clutch disc to the engine flywheel.
  11. Install the clutch pressure plate with cover.
  12. Install the clutch pressure plate and cover bolts.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the plate and bolts to finger tight.

  14. Use the J 38836 in order to align the clutch driven plate with the clutch pilot bearing and the clutch pressure plate assembly with cover.
  15. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts in a star pattern to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  16. Install the flywheel housing.
  17. Install the flywheel housing bolts.
  18. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 47 N·m (35 lb ft).


    Object Number: 36302  Size: SH
  19. Install the flywheel housing cover.
  20. Install the flywheel housing cover bolts.
  21. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 8.5 N·m (75 lb in).

  22. Install the 6-Speed manual transmission. Refer to Transmission Installation in Manual Transmission.
  23. Lower the vehicle.

  25. Install the master cylinder pushrod to the clutch pedal.
  26. Install the instrument panel driver knee bolster. Refer to Section 8C.
