Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable assembly from the battery negative terminal. Refer to

    Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to General Vehicle Lifting and Jacking in General Information.
  3. Support the vehicle with safety stands.

  5. 5-Speed: Disconnect the backup lamp switch electrical connector.

  7. 5-Speed: Remove the backup lamp switch.

  9. 6-Speed: Disconnect the backup lamp switch electrical connector.

  10. Object Number: 33346  Size: SH
  11. 6-Speed: Remove the backup lamp switch.

Installation Procedure

  1. Apply pipe sealant with Teflon® to the threads of the backup lamp switch. Use GM P/N 1052080 or the equivalent.

  2. Object Number: 33340  Size: SH
  3. 5-Speed: Install the backup lamp switch.
  4. Tighten
    The backup lamp switch to 38 N·m (28 lb ft).

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. 5-Speed: Connect the backup lamp switch electrical connector.
  6. Remove the safety stands.
  7. Lower the vehicle.

  8. Object Number: 33346  Size: SH
  9. 6-Speed: Install the backup lamp switch.
  10. Tighten
    The backup lamp switch to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  11. 6-Speed: Connect the backup lamp switch electrical connector.
  12. Remove the safety stands.
  13. Lower the vehicle.

  14. Object Number: 38205  Size: SH
  15. Connect the battery negative cable assembly to the battery negative terminal.
  16. Tighten
    Tighten the terminal bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).
