CERTAIN 1996-97 CHEVROLET RS CAMARO MODEL VEHICLES MAY EXHIBIT A CONDITION IN WHICH THE FRONT FASCIA LOWER EXTENSION VERTICAL RIBS FRACTURE WHEN CONTACT IS MADE WITH A PARKING BLOCK OR WHEN ENTERING AND EXITING A STEEP DRIVEWAY. FRACTURE OF THESE RIBS CAUSES THE LOWER PORTION OF THE EXTENSION TO SAG.
TO PREVENT THIS CONDITION FROM OCCURRING, UNTIL FEBRUARY 28, 1999 DEALERS ARE TO INSPECT FOR THE NEW DESIGN FRONT FASCIA LOWER EXTENSION AND REPLACE THOSE FOUND TO BE THE OLD DESIGN.

INVOLVED VEHICLES HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED BY VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER. COMPUTER LISTINGS CONTAINING THE COMPLETE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER, CUSTOMER NAME AND ADDRESS DATA HAVE BEEN PREPARED, AND ARE BEING FURNISHED TO INVOLVED DEALERS WITH THE CAMPAIGN BULLETIN. ARRANGEMENTS ARE TO BE MADE TO MAKE THE REQUIRED CORRECTION ACCORDING TO THE INSTRUCTIONS CONTAINED IN THIS BULLETIN. THIS COULD BE DONE BY MAILING TO SUCH CUSTOMERS A COPY OF THE APPROPRIATE DIVISIONAL CUSTOMER LETTER ACCOMPANYING THIS BULLETIN. SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. WITH THE AID OF A FLASHLIGHT, DETERMINE WHICH TYPE OF FASCIA EXTENSION IS INSTALLED:
- IF AN ORIGINAL DESIGN FASCIA EXTENSION IS INSTALLED (FIGURE 1, PAGE 4) THE FASCIA EXTENSION WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. PROCEED TO STEP #2.
-- OR --
- IF A NEW DESIGN FASCIA HAS BEEN PREVIOUSLY INSTALLED (FIGURE 2, PAGE 4) THE FASCIA EXTENSION WILL NOT NEED TO BE REPLACED. PROCEED TO STEP #8.
2. RAISE AND SUITABLY SUPPORT VEHICLE. TURN FRONT WHEELS TO ACCESS RIVETS AT WHEEL WELL FLANGE.
3. DRILL OUT (8) PLASTIC RIVETS ATTACHING EXTENSION TO FASCIA (RIVETS WILL NOT BE REUSED) USING A 7/32 INCH DRILL BIT.
4. REMOVE ORIGINAL DESIGN FASCIA EXTENSION FROM FASCIA RETAINERS.
5. INSTALL NEW DESIGN FASCIA EXTENSION INTO FASCIA RETAINERS.
6. SECURE NEW DESIGN FASCIA EXTENSION TO FASCIA UTILIZING (8) NEW RIVETS.
7. STRAIGHTEN FRONT WHEELS AND LOWER VEHICLE.
8. INSTALL THE GM CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL.

EACH VEHICLE CORRECTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS OUTLINED IN THIS PRODUCT CAMPAIGN BULLETIN WILL REQUIRE A "CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL". EACH LABEL PROVIDES A SPACE TO INCLUDE THE CAMPAIGN NUMBER AND THE FIVE (5) DIGIT DEALER CODE OF THE DEALER PERFORMING THE CAMPAIGN SERVICE. THIS INFORMATION MAY BE INSERTED WITH A TYPEWRITER OR A BALL POINT PEN.
EACH "CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL" IS TO BE LOCATED ON THE RADIATOR CORE SUPPORT IN AN AREA WHICH WILL BE VISIBLE WHEN THE VEHICLE IS BROUGHT IN BY THE CUSTOMER FOR PERIODIC SERVICING. WHEN INSTALLING THE CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL, BE SURE TO PULL THE TAB TO ALLOW ADHESION OF THE CLEAR PROTECTIVE COVERING. ADDITIONAL CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABELS CAN BE OBTAINED FROM VISPAC INCORPORATED BY CALLING 1-800-269-5100 (MONDAY-FRIDAY, 8:00 A.M. TO 4:30 P.M. EST). ASK FOR ITEM NUMBER S-1015 WHEN ORDERING.

CUSTOMERS WHO WISH TO RECEIVE REIMBURSEMENT FOR PREVIOUSLY PAID FRONT FASCIA EXTENSION REPAIRS ARE TO CONTACT THE CHEVROLET CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER BY MAIL AT PO BOX 7047, TROY, MI 48007-7047. THIS LETTER IS TO INFORM YOU OF A DESIGN IMPROVEMENT MADE TO THE FRONT LOWER FASCIA EXTENSION ON THE RS CAMARO. THE ORIGINAL DESIGN USED IN 1996 AND EARLY 1997 WAS SUSCEPTIBLE TO BREAKAGE OF THE VERTICAL RIBS IF CONTACT WAS MADE WHILE TURNING INTO STEEP DRIVEWAYS OR BUMPING PARKING CURBS, ETC. THE REVISED EXTENSION IS LESS PRONE TO DAMAGE DURING THESE CONDITIONS ALTHOUGH THE REVISED EXTENSION CAN STILL BE DAMAGED IN SEVERE ENOUGH DRIVING CONDITIONS.
CHEVROLET WOULD LIKE TO INSTALL THIS REVISED FASCIA EXTENSION ON YOUR RS CAMARO AT NO CHARGE TO YOU. IF YOU HAVE REPLACED THE EXTENSION PREVIOUSLY, CHEVROLET WILL REIMBURSE YOUR EXPENSES FOR THE REPAIR AND WILL INSPECT YOUR VEHICLE TO BE CERTAIN THAT THE REVISED FASCIA WAS INSTALLED. 3. DRILL OUT (8) PLASTIC RIVETS ATTACHING EXTENSION TO FASCIA (RIVETS WILL NOT BE REUSED) USING A 7/32 INCH DRILL BIT.
4. REMOVE ORIGINAL DESIGN FASCIA EXTENSION FROM FASCIA RETAINERS.
5. INSTALL NEW DESIGN FASCIA EXTENSION INTO FASCIA RETAINERS.
6. SECURE NEW DESIGN FASCIA EXTENSION TO FASCIA UTILIZING (8) NEW RIVETS.
7. STRAIGHTEN FRONT WHEELS AND LOWER VEHICLE.
8. INSTALL CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL.

EACH VEHICLE CORRECTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE INSTRUCTIONS OUTLINED IN THIS PRODUCT CAMPAIGN BULLETIN WILL REQUIRE A "CAMPAIGN IDENTIFICATION LABEL." EACH LABEL PROVIDES A SPACE TO INCLUDE THE CAMPAIGN NUMBER AND THE FIVE (5) DIGIT DEALER CODE OF THE DEALER PERFORMING THE CAMPAIGN SERVICE. THIS INFORMATION MAY BE INSERTED WITH A TYPEWRITER OR A BALL POINT PEN.
